Do you know the most common injuries in cycling?
The injuries that occur most frequently in cycling are mainly related to overuse.
Injuries often occur outside of competition, often resulting from training. It is therefore very important to gradually increase your training load, especially when you switch from one training activity to another. A previous injury increases your risk of reinjury, so it is best to avoid injuries altogether.
In periods with high training load and a saturated competition calendar, athletes are more likely to experience back problems. This is thought to be related to a high amount of repetitive movements in the lower back, where pain is most commonly felt.
The risk of overuse injury in the thigh muscle is increased when transitioning between low and high-intensity training/competition periods.
Shoulder dislocation and collar bone fracture when crashing are considered to be the most common acute injuries.
