Unbalanced landings, landing too hard after a jump and other elements cause strain to the knees, hips and back. The knees are particularly vulnerable to injury. If a skier lands on an outstretched arm, they can fracture in the wrist or the carpus. Sprained wrists and fingers are also common, especially with beginners.
